The 5Cs Framework

Five questions that show why growth isn’t happening. Company, Cohorts, Competitors, Context and Confidence, brought together through a single lens so you know what to change first.

Why five

The premise

Growth problems are multi-dimensional. Most diagnoses aren’t.

Growth isn’t a single channel, tactic or moment problem. It’s a decision problem, and decision problems have more than one cause. A media review will tell you about media. A UX review will tell you about UX. Neither will tell you why a buyer who wanted to act didn’t.

The 5Cs looks at every dimension that matters, then brings the evidence together through one lens: confidence. That shows where decisions are breaking down, and what needs to change to unlock growth.

What you get

What the 5Cs produce

A good diagnosis doesn't end in a report. It ends in a shared problem, an evidenced gap, and a plan the room actually agrees to act on.

One agreed problem

A single definition of what’s holding growth back, signed off by the room.

A mapped Confidence Gap™

The specific moments where intent stops becoming action.

A measurement framework

Agreed metrics, so progress can be proved to the board.

Evidence across all 5Cs

Internal, customer, competitor and market data read as one picture.

A roadmap with owners

Priorities sequenced, and a named owner against each one.

Leadership alignment

One story that marketing, digital, sales and the board all recognise.

What we deliver

Five questions, one diagnosis

Strategy, proposition, people, process, technology and data. Where internal friction is slowing growth down.

Why it's different

Built to produce decisions

Most consultancies cover three Cs: Company, Competitors, Context. Some add Customers. Very few structure everything around decision-making and confidence.

That is the shift. We don’t analyse a business. We diagnose why customers aren’t acting. The 5Cs is diagnostic rather than descriptive, and every phase ends in a choice with an owner against it. That is what makes the output usable in a boardroom.

The five questions a board actually asks

  • Where are we misaligned internally?
  • Where are customers hesitating?
  • Where are competitors outperforming us?
  • What external forces are changing behaviour?
  • Where are we losing confidence, and therefore growth?

How we work

Our Waymaking process

These four phases sit inside the Define stage of Waymaking, with Focus as the dedicated confidence step between Clarify and Plan.

Asses

Gather the evidence across all five Cs. Stakeholder interviews, cohort research, competitor and market analysis, data and journey review.
